I have just finished my first “harvesting out” of a planting for the year. The radish in my “edible green roof garden” are all finished, although there are a couple of other groups of them elsewhere in the garden that were split from the same sowing at the beginning of March. ‘Sicily Giant’ is an excellent variety – even larger radishes were juicy and mild.
I have now replaced that planting with a fresh sowing of the other radish I am growing this year, ‘Red Flesh’; as the season has moved on, I have sown these directly into the bed rather than starting in the polytunnel.
The polytunnel has been a big success for getting things going but we are in the process of reconfiguring it, with less space for starting seeds and making room for sheltered beds for taking our tomato and aubergine seedlings onto harvestings of their own.
