did you see the new badge?

There’s a new badge to be earned by planting plants that attract butterflies. It’s gorgeous! And you can add plants to the list that are known to attract these beautiful creatures. I added what I could think of from my own garden but I’m sure there are many, many more. I bet nic would appreciate help from this group’s members by adding plants to the list we grow for the butterflies.

Well I added quite a few but had to stop at 5% battery. Hope it helped with getting those badges out :)

What do the plants need to be tagged with to be “butterfly friendly”? :)

I am a pretty new gardener, but I was able to add a few. Most importantly, impatiens. Our butterflies love them.

Yay! I have the badge. It was a bit tricky. If you have a specific variety listed for some of the flowers, then the badge won’t pick it up. For instance, I had to remove “Jewel Mix” from nasturtium. And, it won’t pick up my sedum at all because I have it classified as “autumn joy”. Just a tip for anyone else trying to get the badge. :-)

@Tralamanda – you can add to the butterfly friendly list under the badge page. I don’t think it’s set up to do directly into the plant wiki pages.

I just took a quick peek and there have been forty-seven badges awarded already. WOW! Lots of happy butterflies, I should think.

I just got the Bee friendly one. Should have the Butterfly friendly one as well. Need to see why I don’t…
Woot, never mind, just got it! Now I just need to figure out why, with 21 different beared iris, a few Japanese, snd a few Siberian, I don’t have the Iris badge. Hrm.

I got both badges & without having to do anything to get them. I must already have had sufficient plants that are butterfly & bee friendly that they were issued just as soon as they came out!
Just today I have sown more Lavender seeds in the GH on the allotment. I also have a packet of Cosmos to sow – when I have a seedtray free! I grew some Lavender from seed last year & was really surprised at how well they did! I planted some as a mini hedge at the top of Gerry’s allotment & also brought some home with me. I hope they will start growing again soon as I tend to kill them off – probably due to overwatering! My daughter has bought me several on different occasions but they don’t last long!

Hi there! You're reading a conversation in the Butterfly Attraction group on Folia.
How do we get those joyous creatures to flutter around our garden?
