2012 Lilies
-
…because the “Lilies for 2012” conversation is more about what’s been ordered, I’d love to know what’s growing and flowering this year.
Even if, like me, you don’t know what it is.
So let’s make this the 2012 lilies thread. ;)
Here we have some I found in a herbaceous border at work that will probably be budding next week. We have a ludicrous heatwave at the moment where it’s 19-22°C every day.

Uhhh….. blooming? My lilies haven’t even broken the surface yet! Patience required.

I won’t be seeing any Lilies flowering for a few years but here is a photo of some Lily seeds germinating a few weeks ago in the GH on our allotment. There are many more now than when I took this photo but I haven’t taken another recently.
I have seedlings germinating in all the pots in the tray except for some bulbils. They are taking their time! These seeds were sent to me by a Folian in the USA, orientallily.

These are weird, as is the whole border, as everything is freakishly advanced. At home my orange asiatic lily looks like this:

Must’ve missed that, Amarylis, sorry. They look really good. Another fascinating seed project, I really look forward to seeing how this goes. I’ve got a bulbil on the go too. :)

What did you miss? I’ve reread my post & yours but I don’t see what you could have missed – unless of course you are referring to my post itself!

I was indeed referring to the post itself, didn’t want to come across as rude as it looked like I ignored your post where really I was writing my reply while you posted yours. ;)

That’s alright, no damage done nor offence taken, rest assured tonight! :-))

Shame the photos don’t open/expand! Nevertheless they are all beautiful flowers & I love them all! If you check out my journals you will see I’ve written about my Lily seedlings having been planted out in the allotment today.

I need to get some photos of these blooming, but here they were several weeks ago. These are those early lilies I began this thread with. They’re now over 6 foot and flowering a deep red. Such triffids!

They’re not as tall as the Cephalaria gigantea, but still way over 6 foot. :) -

They are all very pretty. Royal Sunset (second pic) still have the wow factor. I love that lily.
May I ask the ID of the third pic? I have one like that and remain NOID for years.

These Lilies are sooo beautiful – & they open/expand this time when clicked on!

sgardener… Yes, that is Royal Sunset… one of my favourites. To tell you the truth, I just went out clicking, not paying a whole lot of attention as to where I was aiming but… that third picture is an LA… I’m sure of that. I’m thinking, Purple Diamond? Did you have that growing in your garden? I can’t be positive about it though. The one below is Champaign Diamond and I love that one to bits. It’s really quite fragrant in the evenings and early morning. An absolute delight. Oh, and you and your NOIDs. When I first heard you say that term (well, read it), I honestly thought you were talking about some sort of drought resistant genus or family. This time, I got it right away! Hey, that means I’m learning, right?
Amarylis… glad you like the pictures. I didn’t realize they were opening on this thread now. I’m just glad they’re there! Remember my previous attempts at posting in threads? Little boxes with little ’x’s sound familiar?

…here are some lilies mum’s growing at the moment. The white one smells great.

Thought I’d join in the fun. Only Asiatics so far – and some past their prime – but the “big guns” (Orientals & their hybrids) are on the way!
Here’s “Pumpkin Spice” – it’s a subtler shade of orange…

Unlike the in-your-face orange of Brunellos!

Unknown/name forgotten white one – I have several of these so wish I’d kept better records as I really like them.

Such lovelies.
OL, thanks. LOL! Yes you are learning. The coloration of your lilies are superb. Your weather must be nice not like us here. We have had heatwaves. Horrible year for lilies. My orientals’ buds are scorched, not to mention that the leaves are dropping. And you take great photos. Hope to see them publish at QB just like your Orientals.
T, trumpet regale and regale album are my absolute faves when it comes to fragrance. Your mum’s white one could be regale album.
Louise, I like your lilies. Pumpkin Spice is nice and so is the no name pink.
The photo is of Pearl Jennifer.

What a shame about your weather, sgardener. My asiatics & LAs are about a week to early for our upcoming flower show. I might (hope) be able to scrounge around the garden for some of the uppermost buds to get something to use in arrangements. The orientals don’t bloom here until August, really. OTs won’t be ready, either. As for trumpets, I’ve sort of been trying to rid of those. They don’t do all that well here if we have a late frost and I don’t really like their smell. Love the smell of LAs (who wouldn’t?) and even the orientals but not those trumpet & aurelians. They’re not good for arranging, anyway.

Ice Diamond. One of the better scented LAs. Quite strong in evening and early morning.

Have no idea. One of the three different downward-facing asiatic hybrids ordered from a particular company that were supposed to be Monte Negro but weren’t. This year, I ordered Monte Negro from the Lily Nook and guess what? It was right! FOURTH time is the charm? No, The Lily Nook is the charm, I think.

Some beautiful photo’s (and Lilies) here… Mine have just been so slow because of the dreadful weather we’ve been having. The Stargazers been blooming for about a week, as has Rosalla’s dream, but all the others are still thinking about it! On the upside, the Lily Beetle are nicely under control!

I have been really lucky and don’t have the lily beetle. Couple of fly bys but I got those and killed them. Someone in our subdivision has them, I think. I’ve seen maybe half a dozen starting in late May.

And I tried choosing a photo of ‘After Eight’ but Google just craps out on me.
