After a couple of weeks of testing with our lovely supporters, we’ve decided that the mobile app is now in a good enough shape to start rolling out to everyone. We have still got a lot of development still to go on this, so it’s really only just the beginning for Folia on mobile devices (including a native iPhone app – shhhhh!).

This is a web based mobile application – so if you have any sort of smartphone with internet capabilities (iPhone / Android / Blackberry etc.), you’ll be able to use our new mobile app!

How do I install the Folia Garden Tracking App?

Android

1. Open the “Browser” application and type in http://myfolia.com/mobile

2. Add a shortcut icon to your homescreen by long-pressing and selecting the ‘shortcut’ then ‘bookmark’ options.

iPhone / iPad

1. Open the Safari browser and type in http://myfolia.com/mobile

2. Tap the + button, then tap “Add Bookmark”

3. The Folia logo should appear on your screen.

When I go to My plantings and search for something, I get results from my seed-stash. I tried it on my computer in a browser with same results. I expected to get my plants as a result. This is a little bug I assume? (I have so many plants that scrolling and manually searching would be… icky ;) )

I love that I can add events and photos from Flickr btw! If the plant-search works, I’d use it more.

on android 2.2 I cannot choose a plant that pops up from “start typing here” dialog entry boxes. So i cannot do a quick plant XXX is sprouting.

The latest version of the browser in 2.2 seems to have resolved this. I was able to log events on my phone standing in the greenhouse.

It certainly seems usable. perhaps more options. maybe also add an easy way to access and display those custom barcode things for the plants in our swap since our phones can scan those. a full android app would be even better though. not sure if the mobile has been updated lately or not, but it does at least work as is.

Could you answer a couple of questions before I download this, please?

If I install it, will I still be able to use the web site on my iPad? And, if not, does it have the functionality as the web site?

This is not an app you download, it is just a mobile website. You just navigate to the mobile website and save as a bookmark. It is designed for smartphones, you should probably use the full site on your iPad.

This post has been split into a new conversation: Country Dropdown not working in Chrome

The full website has not been working well on Chrome since the last Chrome update. I get the drop down up at the top of the screen where it does not display correctly.
