A-Z for your planting lists / Your Gardening Neighbours

nic Folia Admin 41 plants 8	Last announcement for this long weekend’s huge release – a final couple of bits & bobs that I thought I might point out (as much as I do like watching the weekly feature treasure-hunt lead by Nax ;)) Gardener A – Z planting lists Supporters will also find that they have a new way of quickly navigating through their plant lists – we’ve added A-Z filtering to your plantings page. So, now you don’t have to remember that your Tomatoes are on page 35, all you have to do is remember what you called it. Check out 2AcresGardener’s plant list for a wonderful working example! Your gardening neighbours Over on the Gardeners home page, you’ll now find a new box showing folians that live the closest to you. Add them as buddies and share your experiences of gardening in your local area! We’ll be adding more ways of discovering other gardeners like you in the near future – so stay tuned :) Phew – that was lot of new stuff, now that I come to writing it all out! SneIrish Folia Helper 1108 plants 6b	Ooooooh Nic! I am so happy with the A-Z plantings index. YAY! This is fantastic. Thank you – again! I like the neighbors list too. When it comes time to tweak again, maybe there could be some idea of when they last logged in. That would be helpful too so you aren’t chasing garden buddies who no longer visit.

xan 299 plants 5b	What’s the radius for the neighbors? I’m pretty sure that minivanninja is closer to me than lisapizza, but she’s not showing up on the list. (There’s a couple of others too).

kelly Folia Helper 110 plants 8	Thank you guys! I was wondering the same thing as Nax – what’s the proximity for the neighbours? I’m noticing people in Missouri and California on my list, and honestly, they’re absolutely nowhere near me. I’ve also noticed that people that haven’t defined anything other than their country are on that list – so anybody who listed the USA as where they live are showing up as my neighbour.

nic Folia Admin 41 plants 8	kelly / nax – The proximity is currently set quite generously at 300km at the moment so depending on where you are and how many folians you have living in your area, you might see some members that are stretching the definition of neighbour a little. We’re using your geo-location that members have either set themselves using the “set location” panel, or their default geo-location that we set on sign up. So, even though some might be on your list as being from “United States” they might actually have been geolocated within the 300km radius boundary. p.s. In today’s release, I’ve added a More… link to this box, so you can see everyone based on their proximity to you. Have a play with this and if it still looks like their is some weird data coming back, let me know :)

xan 299 plants 5b	Yeah, there’s a couple of ringers in there (um, Delaware?), but now I’m seeing my actual neighbors too, like mvn. The “More” button was a revelation— I knew there had to be more than the, what, 3 members of Chicago-area gardeners!
