My dad, who died 10 years ago, bought me this as a tiny plant in 1990 when we were christmas shopping together. It is very special to me and I think it is just about one of the most beautiful plants I have ever seen. They were pretty old, and outside though. I think that this plant is awesome because you grew it in the house, in a pot, and it still got big!! Not because it is all that unusual, although it is special to me. I have had this plant for about 20 years and it is a cutting from a plant of my grandmother's. Not on purpose or anything, I think that it just got the right amount of sunlight and nutrients for a change.... If you look at the journals, you can see what a mess this was when I got it. It was overgrown and half dead. I cut it back from both the top (2/3's of the leaves) and bottom (all the roots) and repotted the remaining neck. It bounced back really well, and is a very pretty plant. They are pretty!! I had a pale purple, dark purple, and one pink one. The only thing I did differently this year is add some "homegrown" compost to the pot. Not much because the thing is rootbound (and they like it that way).
