<body>Hi nic - I just did the miniature tall bearded. I *think* I merged it correctly (still unsure if I know how to merge). Can you check and confirm that I did them right? If so, I'll work on the standard dwarf next.

<body>Ok I got the varieties moved over correctly and added the tags to them, but now I have a wiki plant called Iris with the tag of miniature_bearded_iris. Does that need to be deleted or is it merged somehow with the main Iris wiki entry?

Also I went ahead and copied over the Etymology, Description (unique for MTBs), germination, planting out and care instructions as well. Not sure if you did that on the Tall Beardeds or not.</body>

<body>2AcresGardener - yup, how you've done it is exactly right :) I moved over the wiki details for tall bearded when before I did the merge on that one, so we haven't lost any of your great care instructions and descriptions.

I'll merge the empty ones out as we go, just keep letting me know in this thread, or mark the plant for review (on the plant page you'll find a link on the right hand side of the page that lets you do this).

Thanks for all your hard work so far - it's much appreciated!</body>

<body>Hi guys, You have done such a wonderful job cleaning up these Iris in the wiki and I don't want to mess anything up. I was browsing around the internet and finally found an id for my iris. It is an historical iris called an Iris neglecta. So I want to know how you want me to handle this. Should it be a new species of Iris or should I list it as a new variety? For now I have just left it as the general name of Iris.

Neglecta is a &#8220;style&#8221; term within the class of Tall Bearded Iris, according to the different Iris glossaries I consulted. Neglecta is defined as &#8220;blue iris where the standards are lighter than the falls &#8211; or vice versa for a reverse neglecta.&#8221; It is also called Horneman&#8217;s Iris after the person who identified it in 1813. Isn't that cool that I have this historical plant variety?</body>

<body>SneIrish - great question, I would say that if it is a &quot;style&quot; term and not a species name then that definitely sounds like it should be a tag. However, it also sounds like it should be listed as a variety - it would be a shame not to capture that great historical info you've found on it.

What do we think about creating a variety of &quot;Neglecta&quot; under Iris, with a synonym of Horneman&#8217;s Iris, and also adding a tag of &quot;neglecta&quot; - that way we can easily move it around if we decide it needs to be classified differently? I'd like to hear if anyone has any other ideas though as this one is a really interesting case :)</body>

<body>From what I can tell, variety seems to be the right way to use Neglecta. Though some sites do have it listed as &quot;Iris neglecta.&quot; I think you have it right, nic.

from the historic Iris Preservation Society website
http://www.hips-roots.com/photos/neglecta-mu.html
Neglecta
Horne, 1813, collected
TB M B3L, Naturally occuring hybrid. From the Biltmore Nursery Iris Catalog for 1912: &quot; The typical variety of the section. The standards are pale lavender, oblong and as large as the falls, which are a rich purple finely netted with white. Tall, showy and most desirable.&quot;</body>

<body>A kind person pointed out that some of my irises were inaccurately classed as Iris japonica. They are actually, according to my Sunset book,&quot; derived solely from Iris ensata (formerly I. kaempferi) &quot;.

Is there a way for the information (not that there's much) on the varieties to be moved from I. japonica to I. ensatai?

They are Flashing Koi, Hime Kogami, Mauve Opera, Periwinkle Pinwheel, Freckled Geisha, Strut and Flourish, and Enchanted Lake.

Thanks very much for any help.</body>

<body>TolCath, just to let you know, I took a look at this, but I've been off the site for a while and seem to have forgotten how to move varieties from one botanical name to another. It should be a simple thing, though. I'll take a look again later this evening if someone else doesn't get to it first.</body>

<body>@TolCath, @Satrina0. Well, that didn't work too well something happened along the way. I was moving them to &quot;Iris kaempferi&quot;:http://myfolia.com/plants/42497-iris-kaempferi-iris-kaempferi as an interim move and successfully moved three of them. The fourth move went pear shaped and the fifth didn't fare much better. I can't create another test variety either so I think I'll stop there, and see what NnN say.

The two that dissapeared, and the details were...

&quot;Periwinkle Pinwheel&quot;:http://myfolia.com/plantings/56288-japanese-iris-periwinkle-pinwheel-iris-japonica
# Description
Mid-late season. 48&quot;. 6 falls. Originator: Marx. Periwinkle blue with bright yellow signals and dark blue veining and light blue ruffled styles.

&quot;Mauve Opera&quot;:http://myfolia.com/plantings/56287-japanese-iris-mauve-opera-iris-japonica
# Description
Late midseason. 50&quot;. 6 falls. Originator: Marx. Lavendar pink with darker veins.
