How do I change the classification of my planting?

  • SKopittke 50 plants Australia10

Hi I’m new to folia, and is in the progress of adding all my garden plants in the database.
For quite many of my plants, I only know of their common name but not species or variety. I can sometimes look up and make a guess, although it may not be correct.
My question is: I would like to be able to go back and change the classification later if a correction is appropriate, but I looked high and low and could not find how to change the classification field.
    Please help! Thanks!

Opened in Edit, I can and have changed my classifications readily enough, but it will decide for me what the common name is. Unfortunately the ‘common’ name is not always the one the plant is known by here.

What happens when you try to change the classification? If I don’t either pick from the drop down menu, or add a plant which is then added to that menu, the field goes blank which I’ve just accepted as normal.

Thanks LillyPilly. When I click on the name of my planting to which I want to change specification, it bring up a page with journal entries and milestones under and action options on the right-hand-side of the screen. Then I click “Edit” from the options, I can edit pretty much everything but the classification field is not there. These are the items I can change in order from top to bottom of the screen:

    Display Name
    Garden
    Description
    Category
    Lifecycle Type
    Start Date
    End Date
    Photos
Growing Time Estimates (greyed out as I’m a free member)
    Happiness
    Source
plus the four tick boxes at the bottom

Hmm, sounds like a job for Super Nic.

All I can suggest is if you have more than one browser installed, try changing the one you use for this task. Or hold your mouth differently :-) I think computers should just work and have limited ideas when they don’t.

Hi SKopittke – Can you drop me a link to a planting you can’t edit the classification for? I’ll have a quick look and see if I can spot the issue :) It might be that you have selected the planting to be linked to one of your stash items. In this case the stash item controls the classification of the planting, so to change it you’ll need to edit the stash item instead.

@LillyPilly: Super Nic – I like the sound of that! :)

The plant I was trying to change was my amaryllis planted from a harvest. After reading your suggestion, Nic, I tried this: I tracked back to the mother planting entry and yes, I can change its classification of the mother plant. I expected the seeds in the stash that came from this plant as well as consequential plantings would be automatically changed, but they weren’t (and I still couldn’t change its own classification).
This is one of the batches I sowed from the original amaryllis plant:
