<body>I'm on the fence about this. Maybe because I spend so much time here I tend to find all the replies. What might be useful is to have a time marker. Like if someone makes a comment on a thread or journal that's slipped to the second page, say after two weeks or something?

That said, I wouldn't hate it if I got emails I didn't need-- easy enough to delete. But probably should have an &quot;opt out.&quot;</body>

<body>Yes. I agree that it should be something that we can choose whether or not to use. I think that after is saying that she spends less time here than some of us because she is busy, and so she would like to know if someone comments so that she can respond because either her email is always up, or she checks it a few times a day?</body>

<body>I'd love to *have the option* to receive notifications for the following:

- Comments on a Journal entry, garden, plant (?) really any &quot;item&quot; belonging to me
- Reply to a group thread post I started
- Reply to a group thread I commented on (so I can follow up)
- Someone became my garden buddy (already happens! :0)
- Someone sends me a Private message (guessing this also happens? Hasn't happened to me yet)
- Someone posts a new thread in a group I am a part of
- One of my friends posts a journal entry

It would be great if there was a tab or something under the settings menu for email notification and you could choose which emails to receive, etc.

About a year ago when I was planning my wedding, I was part of a Ning.com group called OffBeatTribe (a Bridal community for &quot;offbeat&quot; brides) and the email notification of activity was one of the things that kept me so active in that community for so long.

It's hard to keep track of all the activity surrounding your posts and group threads without those emails and great conversations can pop up and people can ask follow up questions, etc when everyone who has replied to a thread gets notified when a new comment has been made.

I'll admit, the amount of emails can get overwhelming, but I (and most savvy users) just create an email folder for all the activity around a specific community so I can scroll down notices and click and link directly to the activity I want to check out - that way I know i haven't missed anything. I do the same thing for managing my Facebook activity - I would miss comments and notes all the time if I wasn't notified by email when someone &quot;said something to me&quot; via a message or comment. Also, it makes things seem managable because if I put something out there, I can just watch my desktop email to see if someone has commented to me, I don't have to keep clicking and refreshing the site to see activity.

If done right, the emails should result in a more vibrant community overall.

Can you tell I feel passionate about my web communities!? I'm in web dev myself (that's what I'm recovering from when I'm in my garden :-) and I am REALLY impressed with the tools and community that have been built here!

Just my suggestions! Hope this helps!
