Photos in group posts?

Any chance we can get the ability to add photos to our group postings? I’d love to be able to share gardening photos, etc when I make a post.

ok I see when you reply to a post there is the Photo Slurper. Let me give this a try.
Ok pasted the URL of a picasa web album photo and that didn’t work. Do you have to have ImageShack to post photos?

The slurper is still quite a bit “beta” – it should theoretically work with any direct url to a photo, but it does stumble on quite a few cases. It works basically by taking the link, downloading the photo and posting it to imageshack (so you don’t need an imageshack account, it should work with flickr, picasa, your own server etc etc)
Can you post the link that you tried to use and I’ll look into it? Likewise, if anyone else has had problems using a certain link – post the URL here and I’ll see if we can find a pattern :)

Hi Nic – I don’t remember which photo I was trying to post a photo of from my Picasa album. I just randomly selected one to test the slurper.

Ok Nic I found one that didn’t take. I tried to post this in the Seed Starting group. Another photo from my Picasa web album.

Nic – could it be the photo size that is preventing them from posting? I noticed that if I try to post a raw photo right off my camera with no editing then it won’t post.
Trying the same photo as above as a test.

This is just a thought – but I had a proble on another site with photos not taking. Even though a jpeg photo was supposed to be ok for posting, I found that .jpg worked but .JPG did not. So of course right away I noticed that difference with your two URLs. Don’t know if it’s an issue, but just a thought. Also – my Bebo page will only load .jpeg and not .jpg – who would have thought these things could be so fussy. I’m trying this URL from Picasa…

In that last one I capitalized the “jpg” and it did not take. Same URL with lowercase “jpg” did work in the 2nd to last post above.

Hmmm… my URLs from Picasa do not have any extension. So now I have loaded an image directly to Image Shack we’ll see.

Instead of using the Picasa link that they give you on the screen I right-click on the image and “Copy Image Location” and paste that.

Thanks guys for the testing work! I’m now suspecting that some of these problems are due to some minor validation issues with the file name, I’m going to see if I can do some work on this for the coming release.

Update: We’ve got a new image uploader for posts now that works much better than the old photo slurper :) Thanks for the feedback guys!
