<body>I'm new, so no photo as yet. But green tomatoes fried in butter are delicious! Although I've had ripe tomatoes in an omlet, I've never tried green in an omlet. I'll have to try it out Tuesday AM.</body>

<body>As Annet mentioned there are plenty in the Tomato group. Here&#8217;s a list of all the &#8216;green tomato&#8217; recipes from my Bernardin/Ball cookbook. I haven't tried many of them yet (new book!), but they&#8217;re a very reliable recipe source. I'll post complete recipes if anyone is interested.

*Chow-Chow Relish* A tangy relish perfect with BBQ
cucumbers, green tomatoes, cabbage, red pepper, green beans &amp; carrots

*Dilled Green Tomatoes* wonderful addition to salads
Basically pickled green tomatoes

*Green Chili Sauce* Great with hot dogs
Green tomatoes, onion, green pepper, red pepper, chili pepper

*Green Tomato Hot Dog Relish* Garnish hot dogs, add it to sandwich spreads (mayo), dipping sauce for fish
Green tomatoes, onions green pepper, red pepper

*Salsa Verde* Spicy untraditional salsa verde made with green tomatoes rather than tomatillos, but every bit as delicious. Good with grilled meats and fish or straight from the jar as tortilla chip dip.
Green tomatoes, japs (or habanero, Scotch bonnet) red onion, garlic

*Piccalilli Relish*
Cabbage, green tomatoes, onions red pepper green pepper

<body>It really won't be long before we're all considering what to do with the excess, so I thought I'd toss in our family's version of sweet Chow-Chow:

Diced green tomatoes
Diced Granny Smith Apples
Chopped onion
Chopped green bell peppers
Finely chopped cabbage
Apple cider vinegar
sugar
bread and butter pickle seasoning to taste

Bring to a boil and simmer for several minutes and preserve in sterilized jars with a hot water bath, or as you would canned tomatoes.

Some versions add hot peppers, but the country folk out here prefer theirs sweet, served over pinto beans and pulled pork. As a yankee the thought of putting &quot;relish&quot; on my beans appalled me .... until I tasted it. I can't eat pinto beans without it these days.

<body>whirliegig, that is very true! People in the southern states like most everything sweet! Sweet tea is an example. I don't like iced tea as a rule, but I will drink sweet tea. That recipe sounds wonderful! What is Chow-Chow? A type of relish? I think we will have to give it a try, although, we will have to go and buy the apples, as we are not growing any apple trees at the moment! Everything else (except the sugar and apple cider vinegar of course) we are growing in our garden!</body>

<body>Yep, it's basically a green tomato relish. I honestly could use it in place of cucumber relish, especially that hyper-green store bought junk. Homemade is so much better!</body>
