<body>LOL...where were you yesterday morning when I had 10 pounds of over ripe pears and no idea what to do with them? I shall have to post the pear chutney and spiced pear sauce recipes I found in the next day or two (I am currently working on the large pile of apples in my kitchen so that comes first).</body>

<body>Okay, I have no pears (alas) but what I do have is many, many bags of sliced apples in the freezer. I may just have to do a little Winter experimental cooking subbing in some apples for the pears ... especially the butter, as I just happened to get some oranges for Christmas from my parents.

I'll let you know how the experiment works out :-)

<body>@rockingranola -- I *LOVE* apple butter. Also, we dehydrate apple slices. The result is a slightly sweet-tart snack that is waaay healthier than chips (a.k.a. &quot;crisps&quot; in some part of the world) but easy to pack in lunches, etc. You can also sprinkle on a mixture of sugar and cinnamon before dehydrating to make them sweeter.</body>

<body>rockingranola- I found three wild apple trees not far from where I live, and I ended up harvesting WAY more than I could eat. Dh loves apple butter, so I made two quarts of apple butter, one in the crockpot, and one in the oven. It's almost as easy as making applesauce, and SO much tastier. Plus your kitchen smells like apples all day, and those apple scented candles have NOTHING on the REAL scent of spiced apples cooking in your kitchen! :)

I only have two pears I need to figure out what to do with, as well as two apples that need to get eaten. I was going to make a pear/apple pie. I got a big reaction to that at a party last night- &quot;you can do that?&quot; to, &quot; What a great idea!&quot; I LOVE pears! :) Is there any reason you COULDN&quot;T do a pear pie?</body>

<body>So to make apple butter, substitute apples for pears in the above? I;ll have to try that. How long does it keep?</body>
