Has anyone else had their fall plants blooming now? I have some michaelmas daisies (Puff) that are supposed to bloom in the autumn have been blooming for 2 weeks! I wonder if they will rebloom in the fall? Should I just cut back the blooms and hope, or give them extra fertilizer to encourage the bloom. Normally I don’t fertilize asters much. Any ideas?

Not fall plants in particular, but pretty much everything in the garden so far, has been about a month ahead of schedule. I’m sure that fall plants will probably start blooming next month or in August if this trend continues. So far, nothing has re-bloomed that normally doesn’t re-bloom. I don’t happen to have any Michaelmas daisies. I would imagine that at least dead-heading them couldn’t hurt. And it’s early enough in the season that extra-fertilizer-induced new growth will not succumb to frost. I’d say go for it.

  • Ditto what sheepandwool said. It saddens me a little to visualize how the gardens are going to look in August/Sept. Or,…… the plants might be capable of more than I give them credit for.

No fall plants yet, but everything is about a month ahead of schedule in my area right now. We had a mild winter and an unusually warm spring. Right now we are dealing with droughts. It finally rained today after no rain for a good month, but it wasn’t nearly enough to make up the deficit. If it doesn’t start to rain regularly, farmers in my area are going to be in bad shape.
