Confused beginner

Does anyone know when the first and last frost date is for West Africa preferably Liberia? I have annual and perennual seeds mostly for full sun that were bought from the U.S.A. and Europe but I am afraid that they will die since it is the rainy season here and according to the packet, it is plainting time for them. What can I do? Someone please help. :((

Welcome to folia GardenCrazy!
I’m not sure that you’d have frost at all in Liberia. I’m not very familiar with year round gardening (the ground is frozen from late-October to late-March here…) but I suspect you’d probably start seedlings when temperatures are not too high, and when they won’t be washed away from the rains. Some of the gardeners from the southern US, and Australia may be able to give you some more details. -

Isnt Liberia tropical, that is frost free year round? In that case you can plant whenever, although cooler wetter weather will make starting seeds easier, as long as you are not getting torrential rain that will wash them away. In dry hot weather you will have to water very frequently to get the seedlings started.

When I’ve tried gardening in a new climate, I’ve always found it best to find someone local to ask about when to plant things. A clerk in a garden store or a landscaper working outside. I did a quick google search for you and it looks like there’s a lady in Liberia growing American things. You might try contacting her. Here’s her blog link
good luck! Remember that where ever you are a garden is an experiment, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Learn something and try again. It really is an amazing thing for a gardener to live in a frost free zone. Enjoy!

@AprilBosworth… What great research and the perfect example that the Internet might save this planet by connecting us all and helping each of us help our fellow human beings.

The CIA World Fact Book describes Liberia is as tropical; hot, humid; dry winters with hot days and cool to cold nights; wet, cloudy summers with frequent heavy showers. I think the closest location in the continental US would be Miami-Dade county in Florida. I was looking for a specific county so I could refer you to the Master Gardeners of that county’s Extension Service (I’m a Master Gardener in California). And, yes, I found a resource that may be very useful to you. Go to the Miami-Dade County Home Horticulture web page at http://miami-dade.ifas.ufl.edu/lawn_and_garden/home_gardening.shtml. Also try the Florida Vegetable Growing Guide and the" Master Gardener Handbook: South Florida":http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/features/handbooks/MGHSouth.html. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
