I found this champaign Save the bees at the link below very interesting & I signed the petition & included it on my Facebook page!

    http://beyondspace.info/forum/index.php?topic=2714.msg13969#new

As gardeners we are all very much aware of what the bees, as well as other pollinating insects, do for us. Without them we would have no apple, pears, etc. Our flower gardens would also suffer in part they would seem dead without the buzz of bees & the flutter of butterflies.

Mankind would also suffer as food crops around the world depend on pollinating insects without them mass starvation would come about! It’s therefore in our best interests to stop insecticides from killing off beneficial insects as well as the pests that can harm our food crops. With so many of us here on Folia considering ourselves to be organic gardeners I feel a lot of us could take action in signing the petition & passing it on to others asking them to do the same.

Me too. :-) I really have noticed the decrease of bees since I moved here 7 years ago. Perhaps I am more aware because I have a much larger garden now?? I remember the first year we moved here, one Robinia Pseudocacia was just loaded with buzzing bees. Don’t recall I’ve seen that since.

Thank you guys for signing the petition! Did you pass it on to others? I hope so as the more the merrier! Perhaps we can make an impression – long lasting, I hope!

There do seem to be less bees around nowadays as even the Buddleia (Butterfly Bush) doesn’t have nearly as many bees & butterflies on them these days as they used to. :-(( I know of a couple of immense Buddleias that grow down near the river, that passes not 4 mins walk from here, they are left to grow totally wild & yet it’s rare to find any insects on them! I’ve passed them on different days at different times & have walked up close to them & circled them so I know it not just a one off.

That’s a great thing to hear about, Mike! Thanks for signing the petition between us all we can make an impact on Bayer & get them to suspend the use of these dangerous chemicals until they can be proved not to be harmful to bees or other nectar/pollen eating insects.
