<body>What a beautiful quote, Paul. I am so sorry to hear about all the worry this past weekend!! We have a Newfy. He has the most expressive facial expressions of any dog I have ever seen. He can look quite pitiful. I would have been broken heared if he got it, and as Newfy's have a weak heart, I wonder if he would have made it through? How is this transmitted? Glad that he is doing better!!</body>

<body>@TR - the best answer I can give is &quot;the link I gave&quot;:http://consults.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/02/10-things-to-know-about-the-h3n8-dog-flu/. It goes to a NY Times Q&amp;A article.

From what I'm reading it is a respiratory problem and can lead to secondary infections like pneumonia. Mortality for just the flu is low, but goes to 50-50 with pneumonia. It is highly contagious and readily transmitted. Infected dogs are transmitters for 7 to 10 days. Direct contact (dog-dog), coughing/sneezing (airborne), common surfaces - including the hands of someone who touches an infected dog are all vectors</body>

<body>I understand exactly how you feel. My best friend Lucy, now almost 11 years old, has had some vague issues lately. Certainly not anything as acute as your poor friend. But I know how worrisome it is, and the thought of losing your friend just makes you want to cry and get mad as hell at the same time. I hope Shadow recovers and give you many more years of loyal unquestioning friendship.</body>
