    <body>can grasshoppers eat my flowers ? they showed up then my flowers seemed to turn brown.
 we have seen about 6 . but i never thought they could do much damage if any.</body>

    <body>Yes, I think grasshoppers will eat many different kinds of green growing things. (Clouds of grasshoppers during the Dust Bowl nibbled whole farms down.) Can you see any actual damage to the plants besides turning brown? I think you would see holes or chewed leaves.</body>

    <body>1.  The weather has been colder all across the US this year.  We had a very quick warm up in early summer, and then a very mild, if somewhat cool summer.  The tomatoes are ripening very slowly, the watermelon are maturing very slowly also.

2. The grass hoppers may be damaging the rest of the plant enough that it can not sustain the flowers.  That is the only explanation that I can think of.  We have some sort of orange beetle eating the petals off of our flowers.  

Aren't the grass hoppers insane!  Have you had a lot of them?  All of a sudden we have tons of them.  Any where I walk it seems like a sea of them jumps up ahead of me!!</body>

    <body>Ugh,  that sounds horrible! Here in AZ, we get cicadas in the summer. I think that they are also a danger to crops. :(</body>
