This started out as a flower bed for a few cornflowers, corncockles and nasturtiums. They didn’t grow too well, so by the next summer I was hoarding seeds from wherever I could. Thanks to folks at Klorofylli and Puutarha.net forums, I was able to get some seedlings and some seeds to plant last year. I also rummaged through all the last-minute sales in the nearby garden stores and was able to collect lots of semi-free specimen of roses, clematis and lonicera.
This year’s hit has been flower bulbs. I planted dozens of them last year and this spring was wonderful. At spring I planted some dahlias and gladioli, and now I’m thinking to expand my tulip and daffodil collection for next year. Weather’s starting to cool, so…
I’d like to change the soil and to find better ground-coverers, but next year’s going to see a large renovation project at these buildings and I have to dig up, replant and probably redesign everything in spring. All the better, though there’ll be less space and a compulsory 50-cm gravel bed beside the walls. I hate the lawn, but I haven’t been allowed to take it out completely. These are student accommodations, though small houses and family apartments (for the local University) and I’ll have to have it in a condition that the next tenant can have the normal, boring nothing-to-see-here surroundings when we move out in a couple of years (the sooner the better, though it only depends on whether I manage to get my Masters’ in 2011, finally).
