This is the first bed I’ve started since moving here. It’s on the left side of the front porch. I’m not happy with it at all and will be redoing it very soon. Probably creating a raised bed due to the numerous, large roots.

You may not be happy with it, but being in zone 8, you have a lot more flowers in bloom!! Very pretty, Ash. My things are just starting to bloom. They really got started about a week ago, but now they are starting to explode with color. In another week or two, mine will look more like yours!
Did you line it in brick? Because you could just bring in some good dirt mixed with compost, raise the bed about 6", and put in a row or two more of the brick.

Thanks for the encouragement Tropicana. Some of the plants in the bed have died from the heat and been replaced. This bed was actually left by the previous owner. It’s lined with these awful plastic bricks. I plan to make the bed much bigger and add a stone border. I think I’m going to do like you suggested and just add dirt to the top. There are so many roots left from the bushes we cut down that it’s almost impossible to dig.
