This is the start to my shade side garden. I transplanted some lillies there so far and there is a holly bush barely holding on and a nice little birdnest spruce. It does get some sun in the afternoon but not really all that long.

What makes you think lillies and spruce will thrive in this lack of sunlight.? The holly has the greatest chance, albeit, slowly. Try Mahonia, ferns, fall anemone, violas, pansy etc.—The shade gardener

This my shade garden because it is the only part that really gets any shade. The garden actually has two parts. The part in the picture is mostly shade with the Juniper, Dogwoods, Cottoneaster and a Holly.(the Holly and all the Cottoneaster have been there for over 2yrs) The lilies, Birdsnest Spruce and another Holly are on the other side of a fence that gets afternoon sun. The Birdsnest has been there for over 2yrs. My mother in law has been gardening in this region well over 50 yrs so I always get her advise on what does not work and what does. Thanks for your concern. I can always use the advise.

Dear Zengirl:
I reread my terse, intrusive comment and was sorry that I don’t have a better sense of restraint.
