In the summer of 2008, I tried my hand at making compost. My husband and I purchased two big Rubbermaid containers and I drilled holes it them to provide some air. I then added grass clippings, leaves, and food waste throughout the summer. I tried to continue adding food waste through the fall and winter, but I sort of lost interest (it being cold outside and all). I (fairly) religiously added water to the compost, and turned it about once a week with my little pitchfork, purchased specifically for this task. :) This spring, I got a nice bit of compost as a result! I added it to the plants in my West Driveway garden so far, and I’ll add it to the bed where the tomatoes will be going soon. I have another batch of compost cooking so to speak in the second bin. Maybe that will be ready by fall?
