The pond is located in my woodland garden. It was there when I moved in and appears to be a fairly natural one (no liner). The water level fluctuates with rainfall and the level of the water table
It is partially shaded along the western side by a hawthorn hedge and a couple of alder trees, which were pollarded last autumn in an attempt to increase the light.
The boggy area around the pond currently has yellow flag irises, butterbur, and a variety of weeds growing in it. I plan to tackle this area soon.
The pond is a haven for amphibians – during the spring and summer months there are hundreds of frogs and quite a few toads and newts too.
I’ll have to measure the pond sometime to give an idea of size.
