This garden is on the west side of the house, and is divided by a footpath into an herb garden on one side and a shrub garden on the other. I just expanded this garden last year (2007), digging up some struggling grass to put in the shrubs and expand the herbs, and putting down a 3ft wide graveled walkway.

Wow!! That is just beautiful!! I love your garden!! Someday I hope to have something similar, but not until we buy!! That would be too much of a change to the landscape, even for this landlord. :)

We are rethinking the gravel path, though. It looks great, but it isn’t great to walk on, especially barefoot. We’re probably going to add stepping stones.

That’s a great idea!! When and if I do it, I am planning on using stepping stones also, to make paths. There are no paths right now. just two places to enter the front “gardens” if you will. We have a circle drive that is outlined with a hedge on the house side. One of the bushes that the landlord planted must have died a long time ago, so there is the normal entrance, and then a second one where the bush must have been. The front yard is completely enclosed by the hedge except for these entrances.
Sorry so long winded. I just have all these ideas running through my head, and no one to really share them with except here. :)

I know exactly what you mean about all the ideas.
