Janietta's Terrace garden

The builder made a huge mound of basement dirt in the center of the oval that is our neighborhood. Those of us on the downhill side of the berm therefore have a fairly steep slope at some point in our yards. Some of the more unlucky ones have all slope, but in our yard, there is a fairly flat spot running across the top of the yard, then the slope and a swale before there is another flatter spot near the house. It did not take me long to decide that I did not want to mow that hillside. My answer was to build this terrace across the worst of the slope. It is flat at the foot, and nearly flat at the top.
