When I moved to this house in 1997, this part of the garden was described as a water meadow. It slopes gently down to a stream, and a natural pond is located along one side. The previous owners had planted quite a lot of trees – most were still small when I first saw them – but they have shot up, so the garden is far more like a small woodland than a meadow.
I’ve added the pond as garden in its own right and will concentrate on the wooded area here.
In the late winter and spring, the ground has a carpet of snowdrops, followed by daffodils, primroses, a few bluebells (which just appeared, but I don’t think they’re native) and cowslips.
