Since there is only like one thing that you can grow with it, and I don’t know what flowers grow with it, it will stand alone. But by the look of the leaves, it will be a pretty addition to the look of the back deck!

I love fennel! It’s got to be one of the msot underrated veggies. I will even just slice and douse in olive oil and sea salt and eat straight. Mmm….

Is this a riddle? My companion planting book has been loaned out, so I do not have the answer. I am just learning about plant likes and dislikes. The two particular things that I know are: 1. Many plants are inhibited in one form or fashion by its presence, and that if coriander is present, it will not form seed. That is what I know for sure.

I have been curious to grow fennel but haven’t tried it yet. I was told it kind of tastes like an onion? What do you do with yours?

I have never heard that it tastes like an onion. From personal experience, the seeds taste like licorice. The root I have not tried to eat yet, but I was told that it tastes a bit like licorice as well. I am growing bulb fennel this year because I did not know that there was more than one kind of fennel, so I am going to try the bulb in some things. One of the other folians, nax, has some recipes for the bulb, of which I will avail myself when it is time for harvest. The seeds I use in baking. They go in some types of Itailian cookies, and italian pretzels, and can also be used in some spaghetti sauces.

since your book is loaned out, I discovered a site better than my book: Carrots love Tomatoes, thought you might like this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companion_plants.
I copied it all and stuck it in my plant database file in Excel. Now it’s searchable! Doubleclick on a plant in Excel and your browser takes you to the entry in Wikipedia for that plant. Very neat.

poetinthewood- I saved it too! Thanks! My book is also Carrots Love Tomatoes . Both that and my SFG book are out on loan. I am waiting to get the latter back because I want to get my Google calender set up, and that is where I get my info from. It worked pretty well for us this year, so I am planning to use it as a guide for next year as well.
