Spicy's Vegetable 2009 garden

This will be my 2nd year planting a vegetable garden. I’ve started much earlier this year compared to last. I’ve also planted my cold veggies much more closely together. I’ve read that this can prevent weeds, and if I need to thin later, then I will.

One thing I’m really happy about is how good and fertile the soil looks. I amended it heavily last year with lots and lots of leaf mold and an organic soil amendment or fertilizer (forget which) called Bumper Crop. Before winter, I added more layers of leaf mold. I tried to start a cover crop, but unbeknownst to me at the time all the birds stole my seeds!

I have this garden on my inlaw’s property and my father in law enjoys this garden even more than I do.

Another improvement I’ve made is that I made sure I planted stuff everybody likes to eat. Noone ate a lot of what I planted last year, but it was still fun.
