barbamaman's Fairy garden

Garden Type: Shade | Sun: Full Shade | Soil: Combination I'm Organic!

A new garden, in progress beside a shed to the East, a wide perennial bed to the South, an Iris garden to the North and grass to the West. Shaded by a BoxElder and an Oak, I’m hoping for a secluded garden where my little granddaughters and I can have tea parties and share stories and dreams.

When our house was under construction, builders dumped wallboard scraps where the Boxelder grew up, so there is a white mound several feet high around its trunk. I have a rustic little old wooden house, halfway between a big birdhouse and a squirrel family home. With a little round topped blue door, a chimney and a discreet application of wood preservative, I hope it will evoke fairies. I imagine a miniature path will wend its way up the white hill to the door of the house. Perhaps a miniature swing. Maybe some glass fitted to the inside of the window holes and an LED to shine inside. Some little plants to scale and perhaps a wee wheelbarrow…

The plants in that garden will all be small to wee, Mini Hosta, smallest Foxgloves, and lining the path leading into the garden, mini Daylilies with funny little names like June Bug, June being my youngest granddaughter’s name.

Many of the plants’ names evoke memories for me. Family names or places. Most are known in fairy lore.

There is a little wind chime there in the summer and a funny metal insect on a spring hanging from a Boxelder branch.

I think there is room for a child sized picnic table for lemonade parties.

    Are you fairy gardening, too?

I’m sorry I missed your comment. I’m finding I don’t visit this site often.
