bimmy's Vegetable garden

Garden Type: Vegetable | Sun: Full Sun | Soil: Loam I'm Organic!

This garden has been archived.

I mainly grow vegetables and herbs. I love my herbs! I mainly use organic veges, although I never seem to have much luck with organic zucchini so I’ve gone back to hybrids for those. I never use chemical fertilisers or sprays – everything is natural. The herbs are planted to make the most of companion garden methods.

My garden is a no-dig type garden within wooden containers. The containers don’t have bottoms on them so that the worms can come through. This is also really handy when renting your house because the whole lot can be easily moved and the back garden returned to it’s pre-garden state to keep the landlord happy.

First a thick layer of newspaper is put down to stop weed growth coming through. Then layers of lucerne hay and straw are put down. Lastly, a layer of compost or soil on top. Over time it all composts down.

Following years I’ve just put a layer of pea straw on top of last years’ compost, then another layer of top soil.
