My house was built in 1941. Back then, most houses in urban areas either had no garage or, like mine, a one stall garage attached to the house. Mine quickly filled with, no surprise here, gardening supplies and so the car has never actually been parked inside of it. It doesn’t bother me in the least. I would rather scrape six inches of snow off the car in the dead of winter than not have at least ten bags of manure in storage for the next spring day.
This garden is located behind the garage, which stretches out five feet beyond the back of the house. I can’t actually see much of it unless I walk out into the backyard and turn back to face the house. The rest of the yard I can see from my little green chair by the back door. So, most of the time I don’t pay much attention to it. It has two beautiful climbing rose bushes that the neighbors tell me have been there for at least 30 years. They survive without my help so I’m focusing on the small section I can see from my favorite perching place.
