I just dug out the area for the new packed gravel patio this past weekend. It’s in the shape of a circle with connecting paths from the back porch and the west gate. I used the excess soil to raise beds along the perimeter. It helps to define the space more and makes it appear somewhat sunken.
I have a space in the new beds set aside for a small flowering tree, so the space will not be to hot in summer. I am thinking that I would love to have a mountain ash or possibly a service berry tree there.
The beds will be more defined in the spring after finishing the patio service, drainage and more transplanting and spreading of the bulbs and perennials in this area.
