Piled a mound of imported soil onto the existing grass covering sand, pebbles and earth. On the east side it is bounded by a chip mulch path over a big spruce root and on the south and west sides by pebble paths. The big rock at the north end was a gift and was moved into place with his cherry picker by the doner. This is the sunniest bed in the garden.

I am sure that you can find a lot of the bulbs I grow through your local nurserymen and probably others that are better suited to your location. The elevation here and the weather conditions are quite good for growing species tulips as they grew in similar conditions in their native land.

The spring species crocuses and tulips go in beginning to mid-October, it really depends on frost dates as you need enough unfrozen weather before winter really sets in so that they can start growing roots. The Fall crocuses go in mid-September as they will bloom about 6 weeks after you plant them. So the Autumn species crocus Alba which is blooming now was planted early September.
