A corner where two exterior walls meet at the back of my low deck makes a perfect sheltered spot for containers of shade-loving perennials and ferns, along with a fuchsia that wasn’t supposed to be hardy but has survived five winters there.
Off the end of the same deck, shaded much of the day by the hot tub, a triangular bed holds multiple varieites of my favorite flower, the iris – Siberians, dutch, Japanese, and a dazzling purple mystery iris given to me by friend Laura, who calls them “invasive thugs.” I’ve also planted Star-of-Bethlehem and some a couple of primula there for early spring bloom.
