Day 0: I got the call yesterday. Finally got a P-Patch! I was so flipping excited that it was all I could do to NOT scream in the phone. I must have thanked the guy a dozen times and nearly peed myself with excitement.
Day 1: Today I had orientation, introduction to my space, the guidelines, etc. The space has lots of weeds, and a few good established plants. I spent the first hour or so using the digging fork to remove big clumps of grass, dandelion, plantain, fennel, oregano and other misc weeds. Lots of shotweed…this stuff is my constant challenge. Everywhere I go, there is a new crop of shotweed overrunning a garden, waiting to be pulled. The two ladies I met at the patch were very nice, very welcoming. It’s a pretty small group of patched compared to some of the city gardens, which is nice. Hopefully I will get to know more of our neighbors this way, and finally make some gardening friends to trade and talk shop with.
Day 2: That’s tomorrow… I hope I’ll get a chance to run over there and knock away at some more of the weeds, and maybe even haul over a few of my potted plants to put into real soil! Need to grab some soil for a soil test too.
