This bed has been a garden of sorts since we bought the house in 1978. Major renovations were done in the early 1980’s. With good deep soil, double-dug back in the time when double digging was all the thing.
As the kids were growing and we left serious gardening behind, the garden got planted with something every year, but not much care was taken to improving the soil.
About 20% is raspberries at the west end, The east end has three peonies and had a lot of space taken up with self seeding delphiniums.
Soil improvement efforts began again in 2010 with compost ammendments and the delphiniums have been removed.
In 2011 this garden had some Chineses broad beans, finger cucumbers, and zucchini.
