Tonya's Water bowl garden

Garden Type: Water | Sun: Full Sun | Soil: None I'm Organic!

I currently have 3 water bowls in the garden. 2 small bowls are 600mm diameter x 300mm depth (240 ltrs capacity). The large bowl is 700mm diameter x 600mm depth (290 ltrs capacity). Only the large bowl currently has fish in it. I eventually would like to plant lotuses in the large bowl, but in the meantime it has a couple of hardy red waterlilies, and some blue flag iris. The two small bowls both have yellow flag iris in them,and one also has 3 x japanese water irises. Eventually, I would like to put grow some water chestnuts.
The large bowl usually has a small solar water fountain.

In Australia you can buy solar fountains in a few different sizes. I have moved it out of the water bowl now, as i have waterlilies in there, and they like still water, and won’t flower if the water is moving. I have to clean it out and put in one of the other water bowls. I would definitly recommend the solar fountains, but you need to keep in mind that they usually on ly last a few years before you need to replace them.

Koi fish get fairly large and need a much bigger pond, so the fish are goldfish — comets which can withstand the cold better than other goldfish, and they control the mosquitoes.
