Originally in 2008 I had to throw together this garden real quick – we were going on vacation and I had a bunch of transplants that would die before I got back. Due to work obligations this is all that was getting planted for Summer ’08, hopefully I get the rest of the garden up for 2009!

Wow, I hope you have plans for all the tomatoes you’re going to have. :)

Hah, yeah. I have lots of things I want to do with them. I’d love to preserve some… make some golden tomato sauce for pasta, homemade ketchup, bbq sauce, salsa. That’s assuming some of them actually make it out of the garden. So far the few that have made it out didn’t survive the day from us eating them raw.

hey vonbarky,
I am new to Italy and have been trying to start my SF garden. We live in Northern Italy, about 1.5 hours north of Venice. Mabe you can help me. First I can’t find anything to start my seeds, I have been to 2 coop stores and they don’t have anything. Another thing is what you mentioned the vermiculite. I found some but in small bags. What is something I can find here as a substitute. It is funny because my landlords think its crazy I want to plant in a box. They keep trying to come with there big tiller and till up my back yard. Hope you can help me. Thanks
