Just trying to engage in a little science with my kids… and get some “free” food. I think my garden is magic. Food just appears there!
The tomatoes and basil are doing the best.
I loooooooved the zucchini, but they succumbed to a mysterious white fungus. It’s really cool having the rosemary, and it’s still alive… but it’s not growing. Every time I cut a little off, it just gets that much smaller. Not sure what’s going to happen with that. Accidently grew “pickling cucumbers” and sort of gave up on them since I’m not interested in the work of pickling and they didn’t taste like regular cucs. The cilantro accidently turned into weeds. I consider cilantro pushy and annoying! Delicious… don’t get me wrong, but very insistent on being pruned constantly.

Hey Sarah! Welcome to myfolia! Two things are probably happening with your rosemary— first it grows quite slowly; not sure what will happen in SoCal, but in the Midwest it suddenly takes off in September. Second, something’s eating it. I always have more trouble with the rosemary than with anything, because the critters think it’s candy. Try planting some violets or some rue near it, as bunnies, slugs and other assorted pests like the violets and rue better and will then leave the rosemary alone.

Hi Sarah – I live really close to you and just bought some Rosemary. Will let you know if mine grows slowly too… I have it in potting soil in a container so it’s probably different than your set-up. :)

Hi Sarah – A little update on the Rosemary… It does grow a lot slower than my basil. Seems to grow more bushy (wider) than tall.
