puu's nettle patch garden

Garden Type: Native | Sun: Full Sun | Soil: Loam I'm Organic!

a whole bunch of nettles. folks here used to mow these down because, well, they sting. but I’ve put an end to that, and the nettle patch gets bigger every year. hooray! the northwest spring tonic, nettles also make great iron-rich tea. they improve soil and really get a compost pile going.

grasses and blackberries are encroaching a bit, but Baby the goat helps with that after the nettle season is over. there needs to be some ground cover to keep them out more permanently though, as the nettles aren’t around for more than half the year. haven’t figured out what that will be yet. suggestions are welcome.

my new friend, Deston, recently told me that he used to beat himself with these things before a sauna. I think that’s a bad idea, but I won’t try to talk anybody out of it. actually, maybe it’s a good idea. you should probably try it. film it, if you would.
