This Victory Garden is composed of edible veg in hopes of being able to provide for most of our own produce. This is my first year ever attempting any sort of edible garden, and I’ve been bit hard by the gardening bug. I’m slowly attempting to convert our back yard into a farm.
If you are also trying to grow, or supliment your own food supply, check out the Victory Garden Society
The veg I’m currently growing, or attempting to grow, are:
Various Squash (Cucurbita pepo) (aka Marrows)
Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkins (large, orange, sweet, hard-skinned)
Yellow crookneck squash (bulbous yellow, mild, soft-skined)
Zucchini Squash (cylindrical, dark green, mild, soft-skinned)
Various Peppers (Capsicum annuum)
Chili Pequins
Bell Peppers
Tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum)
Strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa)
Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
By far, my most successful endeavor has been the Pumpkin Patch, which I didn’t even plant. It just sprouted up out of the compost heap and began taking over its own part of the yard. It’s currently about the size of two school buses side by side, and the record yield for it so far is an 18-pounder!

Hi there – welcome to Myfolia and the wonderful world of growing your own! I love your ‘what got me into gardening’ story. It will be great to see what happens in your garden and to share garden stories. And yes, cleanliness is highly overrated in gardening :)

Thanks, Annet! It looks like yet another plant is starting to yield something. I’ll be grabbing a photo of it tonight and posting an update. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m already addicted to this site.
