Conventional wisdom said that our 50-gallon pond (surface area barely 12 sq feet) is too small for water lilies, so we’ve always used either water lettuces or water hyacinths for surface shade. However, these are ugly in a small pond.

Still no fish, but we think we’ll try again next week. In the meantime, the plants are doing great, including what appears to be a water lily bud. So exciting. I love it when the garden does something new.

If only it was April. Rain predicted next 5 days (what else is new) so I took today off and did all the stuff I haven’t been able to do for the past month since it’s been raining and freezing cold.
