In 2008 the ornamental pear that used to shade this area was knocked over in a wind storm, taking with it the only shade in the backyard, right after we had laid a beautiful patio. Using the long upper branches from the tree, we then built a rough gate between two large bushes and called it the “Narnia Gate” in honor of a game we used to play with the kids when going on walks in the woods. We would tell them that if they stepped through just the right branches in the forest, they’d find themselves in Narnia. They never did find the right branches, but maybe this it. Aslan is even here.
