Well, we still call it the new border, but it’s four years old now and still the newest one!
It’s semi-circular, about 5ft wide and probably 4 ft at it’s deepest. (I think, none too good at measurements!) When we put the veg beds in we put a homemade fence in to make a break in the garden. From there it seemed logical to put a border in.
It’s really the only border where we’ve put any thought into the planting – everywhere else I’m concentrating on annuals and improving the soil. We’ve got lavender in this one, sedum, hardy geranium, potentilla, pinks, hollyhock and ladies mantle. At this time of the year it’s packed to the gills and makes me smile everytime I look at it :D
Several years ago we planted a honeysuckle and a clematis (Nelly Moser) to twine round the fence. They have been so slow to settle in and establish themselves – but this year the clematis has been flowering its socks off and the honeysuckle is climbing all over the place. (No flowers yet though.)
