I share the allotment with my son. We took the plot on at the end of April 2008. It was fairly clear of weeds, having had pigs on it in the previous year, but there were a few large docks. We got rid of the docks fairly easily as the soil is sandy. The plot is smaller than a half size plot, very narrow. We used to have a full size plot, but gave it up when my son moved to a house with a larger garden. As we both grow salad stuffs, tomatoes, beans, and things that need picking regularly at home, we only grow root crops, cabbage and leeks on the allotment. We have just taken on a small extension to the plot which is being cleared now. So far everything is growing very well. We have put in second early’s and main crop potatoes, plus broad beans, parsnips, carrots, beetroot, swede, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage. More cabbage coming along at home to put in, together with leeks and broccoli.
