Gaidig's Front Yard garden

Garden Type: Frontyard | Sun: Partial Sun | Soil: Clay I'm Organic!

We are renters, so we haven’t wanted to invest much in our yard. We arrived to a legacy of a fifty year old white dogwood covered in ivy, a Japanese magnolia, two huge camellias – one white and one variegated, a leggy rose bush, some holly bushes, and some vinca, violets, and lariope, with the occasional stray daffodil, hyacinth, and day lily. The first year, we removed 11 lawn bags of ivy from the dogwood. I pruned the rose bush, cut out the mulberry bush, encouraged the lariope to grow as a mass rather than a line, and otherwise mostly performed maintenance. I encouraged a Rose of Sharon on the side to grow large. Last fall, I planted daffodils, crocuses, and blue bells. They all came up nicely this spring. This afternoon, I planted some peacock orchids.
