We started this garden eight and half years ago, thinking we had inherited a back garden that had been left to ‘go wild’ – it had, in fact, just been cleared of topsoil, before a small amount of landscaping had been attempted and then left pretty much as the house builders had left it nine years previously. When we cleared the brambles, cut down the grass and removed the builders rubble, broken car windscreens etc – we were left with a big empty undulating slope! It has been great fun, trying to create a garden that the kids, then babies, could play and explore in, that was still ‘wild’ enough for all the wildlife we have that spills over from the nearby woods and can withstand my often rubbish attempts at growing things. Gardening inspires me, gives me a sense of spiritual satisfaction and provides a great way to teach the kids about food, nature and respect for the planet we live on.( It’s also a great place for BBQ’s, when we manage to get some summer!)

Hi Trisha – this looks and sounds like a beautiful garden. You must get such a great sense of achievement from having created it yourselves. Lovely photo of the buddleia with butterfly.
