An outline of a flower bed is all that was there. My wife transplanted some Hosta and I added 16 Chile pepper plants spaced 12 inches apart. Its on the South side of the house. I am interested in how long they last. The soil is compacted for the most part.
It receives vast amounts of leaf debris. The area is partial full sun 2-3 times before late afternoon the oak that provides the dappled sun also provides a shadow from its trunk for a few hours then the house blocks the hot afternoon sun.
In the fall it will receive full sun do to the oak loosing leaves the house will block the cold breezes. My container grown Black Krim Tomato lasted until December last year.
Fall 2011 I gave several good seaweed and fish emulsions. Nov 2011 trimmed back the peppers and mulched, maybe a few will survive.
