sheepandwool's Cottage garden
Garden Type: Cottage | Sun: Dappled Sun | Soil: Loam | Established: 2000 | Organic

This is my version of an English cottage garden. The design is very organic, and evolved around the natural contours of the site. I really tried to fit the garden to the situation here, rather than force the site to accomodate the garden. I think that this site is too shady to grow veggies, but this year I will try a few in a true cottage garden fashion.
Note to self: next year, move Freesias to the Poppy bed. Move one Mum to front of stone wall rose bed. Move Peonies to front door walkway bed on the lawn side, and some to the Hydrangea bed. Plant Hollyhocks at rear of Poppies. Let Monarda tae over the obelisk bed. Move some Iris from the water garden to the Iris bed.
An outdoor organic garden located in Vernon, United States, sheepandwool's Cottage garden currently contains 45 plants.
This is a Cottage garden that is known to be in USDA Hardiness Zone 6a. It has mainly Loam soil and receives Dappled Sun light.Photos

Your garden looks lovely, loose and cottagey indeed. I especially like that the stone edges give it a beautiful look in winter when many gardens are drab and featureless.

fantastic work! I almost wonder if i’ve driven past your place one of these years lol! I lived in manchester, ct for quite awhile and my mom still works out of vernon, ct (and has since we moved to groton,ct) for decades lol. I worked at suds & scissors dog grooming on hartford tpk back when it was opened still and i had graduated from college. So happy to see a “local” face around MyFolia! Keep up the wonderful gardening, and happy holidays!!

@Cremmy18 – Alas, I’m only sort-of local, because while I drive very often through Vernon, CT, I actually live in Vernon, NJ. Nevertheless, I’m glad to meet someone from one of my most favorite places on Earth. :)
