spinkitty's isthmus oasis - sunny side garden

Garden Type: Backyard | Sun: Full Sun | Soil: Clay I'm Organic!

The back garden used to be maintained by some friends who 1) know lots about gardening 2) are way better at eating vegetables. It was a jungle-y triumph. A few years ago, they got a community garden plot / bought a house, so it was up to me… but I hate zucchini, eggplant, lots of laboring with clay soil, daily watering, etc. etc. etc.

In 2004, we started making the garden more ornamental. It’s been a challenge, though, since a good 60% of it is mostly shade. (Photos are from 2005 and 2004 respectively.)

The sunny side of the garden stayed a tomato bed, but… even with ten plants: every year, to make one stinkin’ kettle of salsa, I’d have to buy 80% of the tomatoes needed. So on to 2008 and SUNNY PERENNIALS! Whee! Finally maybe we can grow some showy, flowery, pretty things.
