funkisockmunki's ARCHIVED - Backyard Edibles garden

Garden Type: Backyard | Sun: Full Sun | Soil: Combination | Established: 2007 | Organic ARCHIVED

I’ve been at this yard for a year and a half now. Still working on establishing new spaces and figuring out what grows best where. I started last fall with a winter garden of beets, chard, cabbage and garlic. All of the beds except for the back 2 were build this spring out of scrap wood from our old rotting deck that was replaced. The paths are from bricks that I found all over the yard, some were buried where I dug for garden beds.

Tomatoes did especially well this year – atleast 15 pounds of fruit so far, and many more green ones thay may still ripen despite the crappy weather. Looks like we’ll get a bunch of brussels sprouts also.

My goal is to turn the entire backyard into a permaculture food forest haven. The grass will have to go. We do not use chemicals or pesticides, this is an organic garden. Currently we have compost happening in the back corner also.

This fall I need to install the irrigation system and work compost into the beds, then plant a cover crop where there is no winter garden stuff.

Located in Seattle, Washington, United States, funkisockmunki's ARCHIVED - Backyard Edibles garden is an outdoor organic garden that currently contains 0 plants.

This is a Backyard garden that is known to be in USDA Hardiness Zone 8b. It has mainly Combination soil and receives Full Sun light.
